In Principle 2, we explored the interconnected network of species and populations in an ecosystem. We briefly mentioned how energy relationships within the ecological hierarchy are a major factor determining how ecosystems are structured. Principle 3 takes this concept further by addressing the dynamic processes behind the movement and transfer of energy and nutrients.
