Unit 1: Basic Ecological Concepts and Principles Related to Agricultural Systems

For further thought: One of the single most important factors affecting the ecological characteristics of a particular region is its latitude (degrees north or south of the equator) and the effect of that latitude’s climate.
Since climate is such a driving force behind the type of agriculture that is practiced in a particular area, what transformations can we expect if global warming continues on its current trajectory? Have you seen evidence of climate change in your area?
For a brief summary of some of those impacts, read this summary Science and Impacts—Climate Change 101: Understanding and Responding to Global Climate Change, published by the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions. For a summary of SARE-funded research that addresses what farmers can do to reduce their impact on climate change see, Clean Energy Farming.
