Unit 3: Managing the Farm/Ranch Business for Long-Term Success

Extension educators can find additional resources and information on risk management through two USDA programs:
We have already mentioned USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA). RMA provides funds for partnership and cooperative agreements. Partners conduct risk management and crop insurance education, community outreach and assistance, and research and development activities. At a time when Extension budgets are being tightened, RMA funding opportunities have enabled advisors to develop much-needed programs aimed at the risk management needs of farmers and ranchers. See RMA Partnership Agreements. For more information on RMA programs and resources, contact your regional RMA representative: RMA Regional Office State Directory.
A related program, Extension Risk Management Education (RME), helps U.S. farmers and ranchers enhance their profitability by providing the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to make informed risk management decisions. Funding opportunities are administered through four regional centers as outlined on the program website.
